Known for his work with class-action lawsuits, Martin Chitwood has served on more than 40-cases as either the lead counsel or co-lead. With experience working law cases across the country, Martin is an influential name in the legal community, especially when it comes to law in the state of Georgia. The Super Lawyer award is given to Martin by Georgia Law and Politics every year.One of the ways Mr. Chitwood works for his clients is by recovering money they’re owed and then some. On his BankAmerica case, for example, acting as a litigator for the Eastern District of Missouri, Martin was able to recover $490-million for the investors. This is only the tip of the legal iceberg, and one that hits adversaries hard.
Education and Memberships Within the Legal Community
Completing his final degree in 1976, Martin holds an A.B., M.A., and J.D. from the University of Georgia. A member of the Atlanta and American Bar Association, Mr. Chitwood’s vast education allows him to practice law across the state of Georgia, in appellate courts, and Northern, Middle, and Southern Georgia District courts. Along with his membership to the AABA, Martin is recognized as a Life Fellow of the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia and the Antitrust and General Practice and Trial Section of the Georgia Bar.
A Leader and Director
Martin has paid his dues and done his time in the litigator seat and is now recognized as a driving force in his industry with approximately 25 different jury trials behind him. He’s also recognized for his accomplishments in the state of Georgia as Special Assistant Attorney General during his state pension funds class action case, as Vice President and co-chair of securities, and as director of the NASCAT, or National Association of Securities and Consumer Law Attorneys.
His work in corporate governance reform is unparalleled, as can be witnessed by his many authored papers, professional seminar leaderships, and panelist activity. From educational publications to Mr. Chitwood’s book, which was published in 1976, Martin is a voice of reason in areas like securities reform, antitrust litigation, private securities, and class actions.
